The Ring is an electro-acoustic work co-created by Ingar Zach and Alessandra Rombolà. The composition stems from reflections on the concept of circular time: the idea that time is continuous without a beginning nor an end. Pre-recorded bass flute lays the foundation for this composition, in which a variety of flute sounds played by Alessandra Rombolà are mounted and multilayered into a file. Zach has written these sounds to be played at specific frequencies. In The Ring, the file serves as a base that allows the interpreter to interact with samples of her own playing, creating a macro-instrumental timbral texture.
